The War on Drugs is the War on Us: Queers Against the War on Drugs

LGBTQ history and community are intrinsically tied to PWUD (people who use drugs), drug user health, and harm reduction. The harm reduction movement itself was born out of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, a crisis that profoundly affected both the LGBTQ+ and drug user communities. Our fights are inherently intertwined, as both movements emerged in response to a common adversary: a society that stigmatizes, marginalizes, and criminalizes individuals based on their identities and health choices.

Queer activists possess a profound stake in the drug user rights and harm reduction movements. These issues deeply intersect with the history, struggles, and values of the queer liberation movement. By actively participating in these movements, queer activists contribute to the creation of a more equitable, inclusive, and compassionate society. In this endeavor, we champion the liberation of all, transcending the boundaries of identity to embrace the shared humanity of every individual.
